Pavement announce new compilation album, ‘Heckler’s Choice’
Pavement have officially announced a new compilation album, Heckler’s Choice, their second best-of offering.
The band follows up their 2010 best-of compilation, Quarantine the Past, with a knowing shrug. Their press release reads, “Back when Quarantine the Past came out in 2010, TikTok wasn’t a thing. This newly revamped track-list accounts for any/all viral sensations that have emerged hence (‘Harness Your Hopes’) while continuing to rep the timeworn tunes that have remained playlist and mixtape staples for in-the-know-types across generations.”
The compilation is out now on all streaming platforms. It will be available on CD and LP from November 14th, and is available for pre-order now.
The band have also announced the physical edition of the Pavements (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) will be released on November 14th. Compiled by the band and Pavements producer and editor Robert Greene, the soundtrack contains disparate elements of the film, such as dialogue, snippets, fake Oscar-bait biopic scenes, and rehearsal recordings from their 2021 tour.
The Pavements movie was released on July 4th, and blends documentary, archival footage, interviews, and scenes from the ‘fake’ biopic. This features Stranger Things’ Joe Keery playing bandleader Stephen Malkmus and Jason Schwartzman as Chris Lombard.
Far Out gave their biopic a glowing four stars, writing, “Pavement were a group of utterly normal people just wanting to make music, but found themselves at the centre of a storm of obsession that would never just settle for that. By building such a baffling and interesting nest around them here, bringing in the phoney movie and the wild musical, Perry allows the group to be the most normal part of it. This allows their actual story to be told purely because the entertainment and the drama are elsewhere. Not only is it somewhat genius, it’s also just a lot of fun—even if you’re not a fan.”
