Zak Nilsson, the son of the late singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson, has revealed a heartwarming letter sent to him by Paul McCartney amid his battle with cancer.
Harry Nilsson, who was married Una O’Keeffe in 1976, remained married until his death in 1994 and had six children. One of his children, Zak, has recently been diagnosed with cancer. Upon being given the news, Zak revealed that McCartney reached out to wish him the best of luck with his treatment: “I got this letter from Paul McCartney the other day. He heard I had cancer and sent me this note. I was very touched that Harry’s friendship meant this much to Paul,” Zak said.
In his letter, McCartney delivers a lighthearted message and words of encouragement for Zak. At one point, McCartney explains that his wife Nancy went through similar treatment and is doing well today.
“Dear Zak,” the Beatle begins. “Paul McCartney here. Steven Kalinich wrote to me and let me know that you are about to have chemo so I am sending you this note to encourage you to be strong and positive,” he added.
“I was very preivilefed to know your Dad whom I knew as a lovely guy and a great talent. I wish you the very best of luck with your treatment. My wife, Nancy, went through it years ago and stuck with it even though she hated it. She is now better and well, except for the fact she is married to me!!”
He added: “Sending the very best vibrations to you, love Paul.”
