Paul McCartney reveals the changes he’d make to Britain as prime minister: “We need to fix all these things”

There could be a new UK Prime Minister in a matter of weeks or months, and Paul McCartney is the latest to announce the changes to Britain he’d make if he were elected to that role.

Of course, McCartney is far too sensible to genuinely throw his hat into the ring to replace Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, but his plan for Britain isn’t any less thought-out than other potential candidates for the likely vacancy.

In a TikTok Live, which took place on May 27th, McCartney shared in response to a question about what he’d like to change about the UK if he were elected Prime Minister, “That’s a big question, that is. I’d like to try get things running efficiently, for a change.”

McCartney continued, “People pay all their taxes, money into the government, and I don’t think there’s people in there who kind of know how to do it. So, yeah, I’d like to get a bunch of people to work it all out, to actually make people have happier lives, and have all these systems like roads, and potholes, and taxes, so people can feel a little bit better.”

On his plan for taxes, McCartney continued, “You earn some money, and you keep more of it.”

However, McCartney did insist that he wouldn’t be looking at lowering tax pressure on the rich, but instead for those worse off, sharing, “I don’t mind too much, I get taxed at a very high rate, and I don’t mind, I figure I’m giving back, it’s not so bad.”

He continued, “But people who don’t have that much money get ripped off, y’know. So, they might need to fix that, the National Health Service, we need to fix all these things.”

As much as McCartney’s plan for Britain sounds like it could improve the lives of many, he’s far too occupied with his new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, set for release on May 29th.

In addition to doing a TikTok Live to promote his new record, McCartney, the world’s most famous vegetarian, is even set to appear on Amelia Dimoldenberg’s long-running Chicken Shop Date series.

His step into the world of TikTok and new media has also seen him venture into the podcasting world in recent weeks, discussing his early years in Liverpool with historian Tom Holland on The Rest is History, while also appearing on The Rest is Entertainment.
