Paul McCartney claims to have owned Europe’s first ever iPhone

Paul McCartney has confirmed that he was given the first-ever Apple phone in Europe by Steve Jobs.

In a recent clip of The Beatles legend performing at Apple’s 50th birthday celebration, McCartney confirmed that Steve Jobs gifted him the first-ever Apple phone ever made in Europe.

While he was certainly thankful for the gift, he confirmed that he found using the device confusing, mainly because of what was written on the phone itself.

“Steve gave me the first Apple phone in Europe,” said McCartney, “And I never understood it was like ‘Cupertino’, but its home base was Cupertino.”

McCartney went on to speak about the shows that he had played recently in Los Angeles to celebrate Apple’s birthday, adding that they were a lot of fun to be involved in.

He said, “It was pretty good, we enjoyed ourselves.”

The news of the musician’s Apple affiliation comes shortly after McCartney announced that he was releasing a new album. The record, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, is set for release on May 29th via MPL/Capitol Records.

Pity that the first Apple phone didn’t have a camera, given his new single, ‘The Days We Left Behind’ is a masterclass in both nostalgia and memory, as McCartney reflects on those early days in Liverpool making music.

He said: “So this next song is very much a memory song for me […] I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind, and I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past, but then I think, how can you write about anything else?”
