Paul McCartney announces ‘Man on the Run’ soundtrack album

Paul McCartney has announced details of the soundtrack album to coincide with the upcoming Man on the Run documentary.

The film, directed by Morgan Neville, will be shown in select cinemas across the globe on February 19th before arriving on Prime Video on February 25th.

Man on the Run explores McCartney’s life and career as he built himself up once again throughout the 1970s, following the demise of The Beatles, as well as charting the rise of Wings.

Now, Capitol Records, MPL Communications and Universal Music Group have announced details of the companion album, Man on the Run – Music from the Motion Picture Soundtrack, set to arrive on February 27th.

The tracklist contains beloved recordings from that era of McCartney’s career, such as Wings hits such as ‘Live and Let Die’, ‘Mull of Kintyre’ and ‘Arrow Throw Me’. There’s also solo cuts, including ‘That Would Be Something’, ‘Coming Up’, and ‘Gotta Sing Gotta Dance’.

Additionally, ‘Too Many People’ and ‘Long Haired Lady’, recorded by Paul and Linda McCartney, also appear on Man on the Run – Music from the Motion Picture Soundtrack.

In a new statement, Neville said of the project, “When people talk about the biggest acts of the 1970s, the list rarely includes Paul McCartney. Not because he wasn’t big – he was undeniably one of the biggest acts of the decade – but because of what he’d already done. Paul had been in the biggest band in the world, which in turn had created itself its own gravitational force.”

The director explained how his film looks at how McCartney tried to make the “impossible run from that long shadow of The Beatles” which brought him on a “journey full of unlikely choices”.

Neville poignantly added, “I also saw that throughout the decade, Paul stopped running away from something and started running towards something else – his own voice, his own family, his own life. This was a story of somebody finding themselves.”

The filmmaker also said of the companion album, “This soundtrack is a snapshot of that journey told through his music. Each of these songs is a result of some creative impulse of who Paul was at that moment in time. It was through song that Paul spoke, not only to the world, but to himself. We’re lucky enough to be able to listen along.”
