Patrick Schwarzenegger throws his hat in the ring for ‘American Psycho’ remake
Patrick Schwarzenegger has claimed he would love to take on the role of Patrick Bateman in the hotly anticipated upcoming remake of American Psycho.
The White Lotus actor doesn’t seem to be officially in talks for the film, but nonetheless, when a fan posted on X on May 1st that the character would be his “dream role,” Schwarzenegger responded: “I’d love nothing more.”
This isn’t the first time that the Hollywood star has thrown his hat in the ring for the much-vaunted role since the remake of the classic 2000 film was announced in October last year. When details were made public at that time, Schwarzenegger also wrote on X that being in the movie would be “my dream.”
However, the movie, set to be directed by Luca Guadagnino, already has a possible string of major names circling around the lead role of Bateman, the most prominent of which includes Austin Butler, around whom rumours floated of his casting in December.
The news of the remake has caused controversy given how iconic the original film, starring Christian Bale, was. Based on the novel of the same name by Brett Easton Ellis, American Psycho follows businessman Bateman as he struggles to contain his impulsive urges to those around him in the fight to the top of the ladder.
In April, Matt Ross, who starred opposite Bale as Luis Carruthers in the 2000 film, made his thoughts known on the remake by saying: “On one hand, I am always sad about remakes. It always feels like just mercenary capitalism and nothing else. I think they have their work cut out for them, for no other reason than Christian’s performance is exceptional.”
No further details on casting or release have yet been revealed for the remake of American Psycho.
