Paris 2024: Red Hot Chili Peppers and Billie Eilish among huge names performing at closing ceremony
As the Paris Olympics draws to a close, and they prepare to pass the baton onto Los Angeles ahead of the next Olympic Games, a host of LA natives, including Billie Eilish, are set to participate in the closing ceremony.
Typically, closing ceremonies act as a celebration of the games that has just gone, and a look ahead to the future, as Los Angeles looks set to pick up the Olympic torch from the French capital. Therefore, the event, which is to take place on August 11th, will be a merger of the two distinctly different cultures, including musical greats from both cities.
Representing Los Angeles, according to Variety, at the closing ceremony alongside Eilish will be Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snoop Dogg, with all three artists either recording or performing live from their home city which will be beamed into the Stade de France in Paris.
Meanwhile, Phoenix and Air will be flying the Parisian flag at the closing ceremony. The two iconic acts previously teamed up ahead of the Olympics for a special performance at the Charles de Gaulle Airport, with Phoenix singer Thomas Mars joining Air for a performance of ‘Playground Love’ for the first time in 20 years.
To give the closing ceremony a sprinkling of Hollywood glamour, Top Gun and Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise is reportedly set to pull of an ambitious stunt at the Stade de France.
However, it remains unforeseen precisely what plans Cruise has up his sleeve for his appearance at the closing ceremony.
Notably, the opening ceremony for Paris 2024, saw Lady Gaga pay homage to the French capital and heavy metal icons Gojira before Celine Dion brought the occasion to an end.
In a statement, President of Paris 2024, Tony Estanguet, said of the closing ceremony: “On 11 August 2024, a new page will be turned with the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games: it will be time to say goodbye to all the Olympic athletes and delegations who have thrilled us, made us dream and brought us to tears during 17 days of amazingly intense competition. “
Estanguet continued: “Finally, the pressure will be off, and everyone will be able to take full advantage of the absolutely exceptional show that is being planned under the direction of Thomas Jolly, with the help of all the teams working across the four Paris 2024 ceremonies. Innovative, surprising and brilliant, these ceremonies already promise to be very powerful, just like ‘Records’, which has everything it takes to make a mark on the history of Closing Ceremonies.”
