Lee Sun-kyun, ‘Parasite’ actor, dead at 48
The South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, best known for his efforts in the film A Hard Day and Bong Joon-ho’s Academy Award-winning Parasite, has been found dead at the age of 48.
The actor is believed to have been found in a car in the Jongno District of Seoul, South Korea, earlier today (December 27th). The Korea Herald made the first report, citing an inquiry from the police.
The Korea Times also noted Lee’s death and said that he had been found in an “apparent suicide” in Seoul with a “charcoal briquette” found on the passenger seat of the car.
The actor had also reportedly written a memo just before he died, which appeared strikingly similar to a suicide note. Lee was not taken to a local hospital as he was already pronounced dead at the scene.
He’d been recently placed under investigation by South Korean police on suspicion of drug use and was most recently spotted going home on Christmas Eve after being questioned for 19 hours.
Lee had said of the blackmail case at the time, “I’ve finished the questioning by the police about the blackmail case. I hope the police wisely determine which statements are more reliable between mine and the blackmailers.”
