Watch ‘Adolescence’ star Owen Cooper in video for Sam Fender’s ‘Little Bit Closer’

Sam Fender has shared the new video for ‘Little Bit Closer’ that features Owen Cooper, the teenage star of the hit Netflix series Adolescence.

For the new video, Fender has reunited with Adolescence filmmaker Philip Barantini. He previously directed the visuals for ‘Spit of You’ in 2021, which starred Stephen Graham, who played Cooper’s father in Adolescence.

In addition to directing Adolescence, Barantini has helmed the one-shot movie Boiling Point and the follow-up miniseries. He will also direct Enola Holmes 3, starring Millie Bobby Brown, Louis Partridge, Himesh Patel and Henry Cavill.

Barantini said of a ‘Little Bit Closer’: “To have the opportunity to direct another video for Sam was an immediate yes – an absolute no-brainer for me! Not only is Sam an incredible artist but he’s a beautiful human and a great friend! Also, the opportunity to direct Owen again so soon after Adolescence was an absolute joy!”

Meanwhile, Fender said: “It’s so great to be working with Phil [Barantini] again, I had no doubt he was the right director for this piece, his video for Spit of You was my favourite. Phil called to say he’d asked Owen if he’d like to be in the video, and that Owen was keen.”

The singer-songwriter continued: “I was elated that he could do it after seeing his incredible performance in Adolescence. Alongside Semera Khan [Creative Director] and the rest of the cast and team, they have created something beautiful.”

After scoring another UK number-one album in February with People Watching, Fender will play three sold-out hometown stadium shows at St James’ Park in Newcastle this summer as well as huge outdoor concerts in London, Manchester, Belfast, and Edinburgh.
