Oscars 2026: Jimmy Kimmel fires back at CBS and Donald Trump

At the Oscars ceremony for the 2026 iteration, Jimmy Kimmel fired back at CBS and Donald Trump following his previous indefinite suspension from air.

Initially, the late-night host was penalised for making comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk and Trump’s reaction to it, but following widespread backlash against the move, Kimmel was reinstated.

At the time, Trump took to Truth Social to launch yet another tirade against Kimmel: Why does ABC Fake News keep Jimmy Kimmel, a man with NO TALENT and VERY POOR TELEVISION RATINGS, on the air?”

Attacking both ABC and Kimmel, Trump wrote: “I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back. The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled! Something happened between then and now because his audience is GONE, and his ‘talent’ was never there.”

Kimmel took to the stage at the Oscars ceremony and didn’t mince his words, comparing CBS to the oppressive authoritarian regime of North Korea.

He said, “As you know, there are some countries which don’t allow free speech. I’m not at liberty to say which. Let’s just leave it at North Korea and CBS.”

Kimmel was asked to present the award for ‘Best Documentary Feature Film’, which ultimately went to the brilliant Mr Nobody Against Putin.

However, he didn’t miss the opportunity to hit out at Trump and his wife, who released a documentary feature titled Melania.

Kimmel said, “Oh man is he gonna be annoyed his wife wasn’t nominated for this.”
