Oscars 2026: Academy issues statement after Teyana Taylor’s incident with security guard

The Academy has issued a statement after actor Teyana Taylor was involved in an incident with a security guard after the end of this year’s Oscars ceremony.

After the live broadcast show had concluded on March 15th, the guests were exiting the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles when the One Battle After Another star was reportedly physically stopped by a guard from getting back onstage for a photo with her castmates, who had just won ‘Best Picture’

Footage from the altercation swirled on social media, with Taylor saying, “He’s putting his hands on a female” and adding, “You’re very rude, very rude, very rude.” She then turned to another guest and said: “He literally shoved me.”

Security for the Oscars is dealt with by an external company called Security Industry Specialists, but nevertheless, the Academy released a statement on March 16th to condemn the behaviour and support Taylor.

“We were extremely upset to learn about the experience endured by Teyana Taylor at the end of the Oscars ceremony last night,” it said, adding, “We have worked with Teyana over the last several months during awards season, and she has been nothing short of remarkable, supportive, kind, and all about community.”

The statement continued: “Though the incident was with our outside security firm SIS, the experience of every single guest is our responsibility. We have made it clear to them that this behavior is not acceptable. We want to thank Teyana for showing remarkable grace, and we are taking the appropriate measures to ensure this does not happen again.”

Taylor, who was nominated in the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ category but ultimately lost out to Weapons’s Amy Madigan, responded on X by saying: “Thank you to The Academy I really appreciate your unwavering love & support.”

In its own statement (per TMZ), Security Industry Specialists addressed the incident by saying: “This is not the standard of professionalism we expect from our team, and we have addressed the matter internally to help ensure situations like this do not happen again.”

Taylor’s film One Battle After Another was the most decorated of the night, winning six awards out of its 13 nominations, including ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Director’ for Paul Thomas Anderson.
