Oscars 2025: James Bond tribute planned for ceremony in honour of longtime producers
The Academy Awards will feature a tribute to the James Bond franchise at this year’s Oscars in honour of longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson.
During this year’s ceremony, set to take place on March 2nd, there will be a special performance of some of the iconic songs from the franchise’s rich history, with details being kept under wraps, per Variety.
While it’s unclear which songs will be performed and by who, hints suggest that high-profile names are likely to take the stage, each coming together to deliver a heartfelt and memorable tribute to Broccoli and Wilson.
The pair also recently received the Irving G Thalberg Memorial Award at the 15th Governors Awards in recognition of cinematic excellence and have enjoyed nine Oscars nominations since beginning their run in the mid-1990s.
More recently, it was announced that Amazon MGM Studios will take over the franchise in a new agreement under which Broccoli and Wilson will remain co-owners. At the time, Wilson noted it was the right time to step back and allow “our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future.”
Broccoli shared a similar sentiment, adding, “With the conclusion of No Time to Die and Michael retiring from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other project.” Wilson and Broccoli’s father, Albert R Broccoli, along with Harry Saltzman, have owned and guided the Bond franchise since 1962.
Before the latest acquisition, Broccoli and Wilson teased what could be in store for a new Bond movie, hinting at the possibility of the future secret agent being a woman. However, none of these exchanges seem rooted in anything concrete or planned, particularly as it also seemed the pair weren’t on the same page regarding Bond’s history as the archetypal masculine womaniser.
This year’s Oscars ceremony will honour the duo’s long run, claiming the spotlight among some of the biggest and rising talents with a nominations list guaranteed to celebrate the best and hottest acts right now. For instance, Adrien Brody and Timothée Chalamet will be contending for ‘Best Actor’, while Cynthia Erivo is tipped for ‘Best Actress’ for her role in Wicked.
The musical achieved a handful of nominations, including a nod for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for Ariana Grande, while Emilia Pérez caught nominations in most major categories, including two in the ‘Best Original Song’ category.
