Spike Lee has paid tribute to his late friend Prince while on the red carpet of the 91st Academy Awards ceremony.
Lee, who is nominated for ‘Best Director’ for his film BlacKkKlansman, arrived on the red carpet dressed entirely in purple in homage to Prince. On top of the purple suit and glasses, Lee was sporting a large gold necklace in the form of a Prince symbol which has been framed in diamonds with an opal.
Taking to Facebook prior to arriving at the Oscars, Lee shared a photo of his Prince-style pendant, saying: “I Know In My Hearts Of [purple hearts] My Brother Prince Is Watching Tonight,Singin’ ‘IT’S GONNA BE A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT'”
Taking his outfit to the next level, Lee also showed off his knuckle jewelry with the words “hate” and “love” in reference to his 1989 film Do The Right Thing, which previously earned him Oscar nominations for best original screenplay and best supporting actor.
To round of the look Lee was showing off his old Jordans were commissioned by Michael Jordan. “I don’t care what nobody’s wearing. I win the Oscar on the red carpet,” the director said in an interview before the Oscars.
“Men, women, I don’t care if they’re wearing 15-inch heels. They can’t be messing with the Jordans I’m going to be wearing. I’m going to be as clean as the board of health. I’m going to be sharp as a razor.”
