Oscars 2019: Brian May denies turning down performance

Brian May, lead guitarist of the rock band Queen, denied rumours tat he has turned down the opportunity to perform live from the the 91st Oscars ceremony.

May has worked with fellow Queen member Roger Taylor on the recent  biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. That film, which stars Rami Malek as bandleader Freddie Mercury, has been nominated for five awards at the prestigious Hollywood event.

The film follows Mercury’s life from from his joining the band in 1970 to their Live Aid performance at Wembley Stadium in 1985. Having already confirmed fellow nominees Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper as performers, some British newspapers claimed May and Taylor had rejected the chance to reunite on stage.

However, May has taken to social media to completely refuse that allegation, he wrote: “NOPE! We never turned down playing at the Oscars,” before adding: “We’re just happy and proud that Bohemian Rhapsody has received 5 nominations, and we will be there in support !!!”
