British indie-pop singer Oscar Lang has previewed the release of his upcoming debut studio album Chew the Scenery with the new single ‘Are You Happy’.
An impassioned ode to a friend going through a rough patch, ‘Are You Happy’ tests the waters and acts as a stable foundation for a person who doesn’t explicitly show their true feelings. “I always knew you to be laughing at yourself/You’re way too good a trying to hide the way you felt”. The song itself buzzes with palpable energy, conjuring the positive emotions that Lang is trying to impart on his best pal. It’s almost impossible to listen to this song and not feel happy, between its bubblegum melody and Casio keyboard tones.
“I wrote this tune about a mate that was having a really hard time and I wanted to let them know that I was there for them,” Lang explains in a press release. “I think it’s important to reach out to friends and family when they’re not doing great. It can be hard though, trying not to be too overbearing but I feel like this song is a great way of telling someone that you care about them.”
