Olivia Wilde to star in new Gregg Araki movie ‘I Want Your Sex’

Acclaimed director Gregg Araki is set to helm Black Bear’s production I Want Your Sex, with actor and Don’t Worry Darling director Olivia Wilde heading up the cast. The new movie follows a screenplay written by Araki and Slutever creator Karley Sciortino.

The plot follows Elliot, who secures a new job working for the esteemed artist and cultural figure Erika Tracy, portrayed by Wilde. In the movie, the character’s dreams seem to manifest as Erika selects him to be her muse in more ways than one.

However, Elliot quickly discovers that his newfound role plunges him into a perilous journey beyond his wildest expectations. As Erika leads him into a thick plot of sexual attraction, domination, deceit, and even, ultimately, violence, Elliot realises he may be in over his head, navigating a path that challenges his perceptions and desires in unforeseen ways.

Arlie Day and Mike Page of To Leslie and The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry eminence, respectively, are casting directors for the project. Meanwhile, Seth Caplan, an esteemed winner of the John Cassavetes Award at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, produced the picture in collaboration with Black Bear’s Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler.

John Friedberg and Courtney L. Cunniff are among the executive producers confirmed for the project. Additionally, Black Bear will provide full financing for the project and will present the movie to global distributors at the Cannes Film Festival later this month. Production is scheduled to start this summer in Los Angeles.

Wilde recently earned universal applause for her role as both star and director of Don’t Worry Darling, in which she starred alongside pop star-turned-actor Harry Styles. The movie premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2022 and earned close to $100 million in global box office revenue.

Her broader acting oeuvre includes memorable appearances in Spike Jonze’s Her, Damien Chazelle’s Babylon, Ron Howard’s Rush, and the Hugh Lairie-starring medical drama House. Meanwhile, Wilde’s directional career includes Booksmart, and she is soon set to work on a comic book adaptation for Avengelyne and the Christmas comedy #Naughty.

Black Bear appears to have a few prosperous years ahead, with Greg Kwedar’s Sing Sing, Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey and David Mackenzie’s Relay among its upcoming projects. The production giant has also begun pre-production on a boxing movie starring Sydney Sweeney and directed by David Michôd. Black Bear will showcase the anticipated sports drama to prospective buyers in Cannes next week
