Oasis deny reports they are due to perform at Knebworth
Oasis have issued a statement denying claims they are set to play shows at Knebworth Park in 2026.
Famously, the Gallagher brothers have a storied history with the Hertfordshire open-air venue, having played two iconic shows in 1996. Over the pair of concerts, 280,000 fans witnessed Oasis in all their glory and at the peak of their powers.
In total, 2.5 million people attempted to secure tickets for the event which equates to 4 per cent of the British population in 1996, and enough to sell out Knebworth Park for a further 15 nights. The figure is only dwarfed by the demand to see Oasis on their 2025 reunion tour which saw 10 million fans attempt to buy tickets.
Their two shows at Knebworth have been archived in the history books, forming the concluding scene for the documentary, Supersonic, and it was also released as a concert film in 2021.
While Oasis never returned to Knebworth after 1996, Liam Gallagher came back 26 years later to perform two headline shows in 2022 which further solidified the venue’s links to the Manchester icons.
Following news of their comeback, Knebworth House owner, Henry Lytton-Cobbold, made a public plea for the band to return in 2026 for the 30th anniversary, telling the BBC: “Wembley is a reasonable warm-up venue for Knebworth. Then get ready for a nice huge 30th shindig in 2026. That’s what the people want and they seem pretty good at doing what the people want. It would be a great way to have the best party of all parties.”
While Lytton-Cobbold made it clear that he’d yet to enter discussions with the band, he left the door open by adding, “He knows where we are, he’s always been keen, he’s up for it. They just have to stay mates for 12 months.”
Then, on September 10th, The Sun claimed that “insiders” had told them Liam and Noel Gallagher were “both open to the idea” of playing at Knebworth in 2026 “but will wait until they’ve started their 19-date reunion tour next year before they decide.”
Now, this story has been squashed by the band. On September 11th, Oasis wrote on X: “Contrary to reports in some UK tabloid media today, Oasis will not be playing Knebworth Park in the future. There are no plans for any further UK dates beyond the currently announced UK stadium tour.”
Last week, Oasis added two more shows to their reunion tour at Wembley Stadium which were made available to purchase through a “special invitation-only ballot ticket sale strategy” following the uproar surrounding the use of dynamic pricing for the initial run of concerts.
Furthermore, Oasis distanced themselves from the pricing strategy, with a press release reading, “As for the well reported complaints many buyers had over the operation of Ticketmaster’s dynamic ticketing: it needs to be made clear that Oasis leave decisions on ticketing and pricing entirely to their promoters and management, and at no time had any awareness that dynamic pricing was going to be used.”
