Noel Gallagher shares emotional letter from Lech Poznań thanking Oasis: “Highlight of the night”

Noel Gallagher has shared a letter he’s received from Polish football club Lech Poznań thanking Oasis for adopting their fans’ signature celebration.

The Poznań, which sees fans turn their back to the pitch and celebrate with their arms on the person next to them, has been used by Manchester City supporters for many years since they played Lech Poznań during a Europa League match in 2010.

For the last 15 years, Manchester City, who have been the most dominant side in English football during this period, have become synonymous with the Poznań, which has also become a staple part of the Oasis reunion tour.

At each show, Liam Gallagher has been instructing fans, whether they are in Edinburgh or Chicago, to do the Poznań during ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’.

Now, the club that started it all have shown their appreciation to Oasis. Noel wrote on social media alongside an image of a letter from the Polish football club along with a special jersey in a box, “Thanks to all at Lech Poznań. It’s been THE highlight of the night all over the world. Even United fans have been doing it!!”

The letter reads, “In front of you lies a very special gift – a personalised KKS Lech Poznań jersey with your name and the number, ’12’, which in our club is reserved for the fans – our ‘twelth’ player.”

It also highlights that the 15th anniversary of Manchester City facing off against Lech Poznań is next month, which they describe as the moment everybody “discovered how we celebrate football in our city”.

The message proudly continues, “The term ‘the Poznan’ even made its way into the Cambridge Dictionary. We are truly proud that such a great football club as Manchester City helped to spread the name of our city in such a remarkable way.”

Lech Poznań also offered Gallagher an open invitation, writing: “We’ve seen the recordings from your concerts where you encourage Oasis fans to join and do ‘the Poznan’ – and we have to say, it really makes a huge impression. Perhaps one day you would like to visit our city as well – either to play a show here or to experience firsthand the unique atmosphere of a Lech match at our stadium.”

Oasis are set to bring the Poznań to Wembley Stadium for two final shows later this month before heading across to South Korea, Japan and Australia to conclude their historic Oasis Live ’25 world tour.
