Noel Fielding’s ‘Dick Turpin’ series cancelled during filming of new season

The Apple TV+ series, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, starring Noel Fielding, has been cancelled halfway through the production of the second season.

The first series aired on the streaming platform early last year, and following the success, it was greenlit for another season. However, according to Variety, the second series will no longer be going ahead despite filming beginning ahead of Christmas.

The publication states that Apple reportedly did “everything they could” to conclude the series and were “really excited about” the project, which had been filming for around three months.

The reason for the cancellation of The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is currently unknown. The Sun alleges that Fielding didn’t return to continue filming after the Christmas break and is currently in France after leaving the United Kingdom. They also claim those working on the show were told last week the production ended due to “the illness of a key cast member”.

A source told The Sun that the cast and crew “were understandably bewildered and infuriated by the bombshell because the shoe show required millions of pounds, months of planning and hours of work. It now effectively means that they are all out of work and looking for new jobs, but they still haven’t had a full explanation.”

They continued: “Naturally, the rumour mill is in overtime as to what has happened with Noel, but it must have been very serious to axe the whole show. In most circumstances execs will at least consider pausing filming, but for some reason they decided to throw in the towel before the situation got any worse.”

Fielding can also be seen as a team captain on the comedy panel show Never Mind the Buzzcocks, hosted by Greg Davies, which airs on Sky Max. The Mighty Boosh star remains a host of the hit cookery show, The Great British Bake Off, which is expected to film a new season in the forthcoming months.

Fielding is yet to comment on the cancellation of The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin by Apple.
