Noel Clarke allegedly arrested and raided by Met Police
Doctor Who actor Noel Clarke was reportedly arrested at his family home in Kensington, London, on September 25th.
The Sun and The Guardian broke news of his arrest, though no clear reason was cited. The Sun also shared photographs of police carrying items from his home at the scene, including laptops and documents, after the alleged house raid.
The star was allegedly questioned in custody, but later released. The reasons for this occurrence are currently unknown, though it has been reported that Scotland Yard officers stayed on the scene for approximately five hours.
Clarke’s name has been firmly in the spotlight after he was recently ordered to pay £3million in damages to The Guardian after losing a libel case against the publication. In 2021, Clarke was the subject of seven articles and a podcast by The Guardian regarding allegations of sexual misconduct.
One specific article, published in April 2021, alleged that 20 women had accused Clarke of acting inappropriately in a professional capacity, which he denied. He subsequently unsuccessfully sued the newspaper for £70million in damages. He must pay the £3million fee within the next 28 days.
In August, following the ruling of the libel case, The Guardian’s editor-in-chief Katharine Viner said the result is “a deserved victory for those women who suffered because of the behaviour of Noel Clarke”. She continued: “Going to court is difficult and stressful, yet more than 20 women agreed to testify in the High Court, refusing to be bullied or intimidated.”
Clarke has been lying low since the charges were brought against him. In 2021 was given Bafta’s outstanding British contribution to cinema honour. However, the award and his Bafta membership were suspended when the Guardian’s allegations were first published in 2021.
Clarke’s team have yet to comment on the recent arrest and alleged house raid.
