Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock to reprise roles in ‘Practical Magic 2’
Nicole Kidman recently announced she will reprise her role in a Practical Magic sequel alongside Sandra Bullock, 26 years after the original was released.
Warner Bros also confirmed the news, stating that a second movie is currently “in development and coming soon”. Discussing the film with People magazine, Kidman explained, “Yes, I will be in it. And Sandy will be in it. And that’s that.”
Regarding additional details and narrative speculation, she said there is “a lot more to tell”, adding: “We go, ‘OK, this is kind of interesting now to be able to do this’ [We] found a way in.”
In the original movie, Kidman and Bullock played two witch sisters who attempt to break a family curse that blocks their chances of finding love. Kidman and Bullock are reportedly producing the sequel alongside Denise Di Novi, with A Beautiful Mind‘s Akiva Goldsman writing the screenplay.
Kidman revealed the sequel plans prior to the premiere of her upcoming Netflix film, A Family Affair, in which she stars alongside Zac Efron and Joey King. Further details about the movie are yet to come to light, but Hoffman has published two prequel novels and one sequel since the original in 1995, suggesting that more material set in the same world is more than plausible.
However, fans of the movie and novels have been let down before after HBO announced a prequel series in 2019, which never made it to the small screen. The reason for its cancellation could have been the forthcoming movie, however, as suggested by Novi, who said: “There is something else that’s going to happen that is still a secret, but, I think the fans are going to be thrilled.”
Other details about the movie’s cast or its scheduled release date have yet to be confirmed.
