Nickelback want to move into metal: ‘We’d love to record an album of Slayer covers’

Nickelback would consider a change of direction and have earmarked a metal album as a potential avenue.

Having been active since 1995 and become one of the most commercially successful Canadian rock bands of all time, last released a record in 2017 with their ninth full length album Feed the Machine.

Now Mike Kroeger, the longterm bassist of the band and brother to lead singer Chad Kroeger, has been discussing the possibility of moving into a new area of music. Asked by Australian publication Wall Of Sound if Nickelback members have other musical interests, Kroeger admitted that they are all “metalheads” and would “love” to make an album of Slayer covers.

“I would love to. Metal is what makes me go – it’s what I listen to without fail,” Kroeger said. “If we could actually sink in and do a metal album, all four of us would love it. I know that we’re all – on differing scales – metalheads at our core,” he added.

“We all know everything about the Big Four – Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. I would do a Slayer cover album if I could. That’s where my heart lies. There are just never enough hours in the day to do everything, but let’s just say I wouldn’t count it out.”
