Nick Jonas cast as Kiss singer Paul Stanley in new biopic
The Jonas Brothers’ Nick Jonas is reportedly set to play Kiss singer Paul Stanley in a new biopic on the band, titled Shout It Out Loud.
Shout It Out Loud will focus on the early part of the glam-rock group’s career in the 1970s and is set to be directed by McG. Stanley and Gene Simmons will be heavily involved in the project as co-producers; they also provided the initial idea for the movie alongside Universal Music Group.
While the role of Simmons has yet to be cast, Deadline reports that Jonas is close to completing a deal to play Stanley. The pop star has acting credentials, having previously starred in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Goat, Kingdom, and The Good Half.
Shout It Out Loud was first announced in 2021 and was initially set to arrive on Netflix in 2024, but despite STX fully financing the movie, it has been hit with delays. Ole Sanders was originally on board as writer, but the latest screenplay draft is from Darren Lemke.
Kiss manager Don McGhee said in 2023 of the film: “It’s a biopic about the first four years of Kiss. We’re just starting it now. We’ve already sold it, it’s already done, we have a director, McG. That’s moving along and that’ll come in ’24.”
Meanwhile, Stanley told Kylie Olsson in 2022: “Look, you get one chance to do it, and I would rather not do it than do it half-assed or poorly. Our director is the real deal. He did Maleficent 2, and he’s not some hack; he knows how to make movies. It should be great. Casting hasn’t begun yet. But that will be interesting too.”
Shout It Out Loud is expected to go into production later this year or early 2026. Jonas is currently occupied with The Jonas Brothers’ 20th anniversary tour, which kicks off in August and will conclude in mid-November.
