Nick Cave, the enigmatic lead singer of the Bad Seeds, has shared an emotional message with his fans after the sad news that his mother, Dawn, had passed away.
Cave’s mother, who worked as a librarian earlier in her life, was a major influence on his creative vision from a young age. His relationship with Dawn grew incredibly close in his late teens when his father, Colin Frank Cave, was killed in a car crash.
It is said that Cave’s mother broke the news to him at a time when she was bailing him out of a police station amid allegations of a burglary attempt. In what was a deeply confusing time, Cave later said that “the loss of my father created in my life a vacuum, a space in which my words began to float and collect and find their purpose.”
Now, taking to his fan-led forum the Red Hand Files, Cave has paid tribute to his mother who passed away while at the Cabrini Hospital in Brighton, Australia, at the age of 93.
“My beautiful mother passed gently away today. She was ninety-three years old,” Cave wrote in his latest post which arrived alongside a picture of his mother.
“She was the most extraordinary woman and greatly loved,” he added. “My family and I would like to thank the nurses at Cabrini Hospital in Brighton, Australia for their most wonderful care and kindness over the last few weeks.”
