New York rapper Kay Flock sentenced to 30 years in prison

Drill rapper Kay Flock has been hit with a 30-year sentence for racketeering and attempted murder.

The 22-year-old, real name Kevin Perez, was sentenced by US District Judge Lewis J Liman on December 16th.

According to a press release from the Southern District of New York, he was sentenced for committing violent crimes as the leader of the Bronx gang Sev Side/DOA.

Flock was convicted of racketeering conspiracy, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon in aid of racketeering, and a firearm discharge offence.

In a statement, US Attorney Jay Clayton said, “Kevin Perez used violence and fame to fuel fear and intimidation across the Bronx. Perez and his gang members carried out a string of shootings that struck both rival gang members and innocent bystanders.”

He continued, “Perez also used his platform as a prominent rapper to celebrate his violence: threatening his rivals, bragging about his shootings, and taunting his victims. His brazen actions unleashed a series of back-and-forth retaliatory shootings that killed and injured far too many people in the Bronx.”

In addition to 30 years behind bars, he was also sentenced to five years of supervised release.

Flock was found guilty of the charges in March, with prosecutors seeking a 50-year sentence for the rapper.

The US Attorney’s Office claimed he “used his influence to transform the neighbourhood gang Sev Side into a highly visible, influential, and violent entity,” while describing him as a “a grave danger to the public.”

Flock’s biggest song, ‘PSA’, has over 212 million Spotify streams. His project, The D.O.A. Tape, was released on Universal Music Group in 2021. He’s worked with the likes of Cardi B, Gucci Mane, and other big names.
