Continuing their dominance in the independent market, A24 has acquired the supernatural drama Lamb from filmmaker Valdimar Jóhannsson, with an international trailer having been released for the film ahead of its Cannes debut.
The debut film from director Valdimar Jóhannsson, who has previously worked in the special effects department for major blockbusters including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Prometheus, looks to be a unique, chiller in the vein of Robert Eggers’ The Witch.
Starring Noomi Rapace and Hilmir Snær Guðnason, the story follows a childless couple María and Ingvar, sheep farmers in Iceland who, on Christmas eve, find a newborn who is half human, half sheep. Longing for a child of their own, they decide to keep it and raise it as their own, bringing them much joy and danger in the process.
Noomi Rapace, star of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, has been out of the limelight for the previous few years though returns to work with this dark, dreary independent release. “A script like this is rare and I directly felt that I had to do it…I’ve never done anything like this before and I can’t wait to start filming and go back to my roots in Iceland,” Rapace stated upon word of the film’s original announcement.
Creating a dark, haunting mood, the trailer for Lamb teases the design of the therianthrope, as well as the beautiful, desolate landscape that will house the atmospheric piece of fantasy.
With A24 Valdimar Jóhannsson is in safe hands, being the distributor behind modern horror classics, Saint Maud, Hereditary, Midsommar and The Witch to name just a few. Dedicated to bringing ambitious, vibrant and genuinely revolutionary independent pieces of cinema to the masses, A24 are the leading voice for the industry’s true creatives.
