New Rules: Dua Lipa lands role in new A24 comedy, ‘Peaked’
Dua Lipa has bagged her next acting role. She’ll be swapping out Mermaid Barbie for a comedy ensemble role in A24’s forthcoming comedy, Peaked.
The ‘Houdini’ singer has been confirmed as a new addition on the set of Peaked, which will be directed by actor and filmmaker Molly Gordon and written by Gordon and Allie Levitan.
The title of the film refers to two girls who “peaked” in high school, though they were deemed “terrorisers” at the time.
In the movie, the two reunite with their former classmates at a ten-year school reunion and attempt to relive their former glory days, with unintended consequences.
The singer-songwriter’s inclusion in the project marks her first official foray into comedy ensemble work, following her role as Mermaid Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s 2024 plastic classic. It has not been revealed which character Dua Lipa will be playing in the highly anticipated comedy.
Dua Lipa isn’t the only big name attached to the movie. Oscar-winner Laura Dern, Sex Education star Emma Mackey, Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie, and Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley are all set to bein the next A24 movie.
Notably, Storrie rose to fame quickly thanks to his role in the queer ice-hockey show, Heated Rivalry, and has since hosted his own episode of Saturday Night Live.
The wider cast includes Gabby Windey, Levon Hawke, Emil Wakim, Mitra Jouhari, Alex Consani, Amy Sedaris, Owen Thiele, and Jaya Harper.
The performer will also star as LaGrange in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming movie, Argylle.
The Londoner released her last album in 2024 and has since been touring across the world in support of Radical Optimism.
Last year, she received public support from Patti Smith, who praised the ‘Be the One’ star as she “cares about people – that’s in parallel to having a real thirst for knowledge. She’s fighting to seek protection from AI, which is something that affects all of us. She’s not afraid to speak out for displaced people.”
