New owners of The Leadmill in Sheffield reveal new name and opening date
After 45 years, the beloved Sheffield venue The Leadmill officially shut its doors last month. Now, the new operators have announced a new name and an official opening date.
The change comes as the space lost an ongoing eviction court battle with its landlord. Consequently, the new owners served an eviction notice on The Leadmill in March.
The new owner, Electric Group, has shared that the new iteration of The Leadmill will open its doors in February 2026. Electric Group run various venues across the UK, including Brixton Electric.
The venue will now be known as Electric Sheffield, in keeping with their London space. This confirms that the venue will remain a space for music, as the group had previously vowed. They had stated that The Leadmill would “continue to be a cornerstone of the live music scene in Sheffield, supporting artists, fans, and community projects for the next 100 years”.
According to The Star, in March 2025, new bosses said that they intended to refurbish the building and offer current workers jobs at a new nightclub on the premises.
Since opening in 1980, the Sheffield venue has hosted many names who have progressed to become giants in the musical world. Big acts include Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, Kings of Leon, and Amy Winehouse, all of whom played The Leadmill before going on to international acclaim.
Far Out were on the ground at The Leadmill’s closing night, to celebrate the life and legacy of such a vibrant spot, headlined by Miles Kane. Of the event, Dale Maplethorpe wrote, “Remember the people that make these places special, the fact that the artist onstage is no more important than those watching them, and the fact that one can’t exist without the other, that a venue is defined by those who make it. “Don’t forget who you are!”
