A new biopic on AC/DC singer Bon Scott under production
Following a spree of movie biopics in recent years, HALO Films have announced a new movie on the life of the late AC/DC singer Bon Scott.
After a successful run with Freemantle, the iconic singer joined fellow Australia-based Scots Malcolm and Angus Young in AC/DC in 1974. Scott led the band through its meteoric rise in the 1970s with a run of popular albums, including High Voltage, Powerage and Highway to Hell.
Tragically, Scott died from acute alcohol poisoning in 1980. After a period of deliberation, AC/DC decided to continue with English singer Brian Johnson as a replacement. Johnson seemed to be an apt replacement since he could emulate Scott’s style and was even endorsed by the late singer in life.
The forthcoming biopic is set to follow the life and death of Scott but with a degree of creative license. HALO Films hopes to “offer a more imaginative exploration of Scott’s character and experiences”.
“Focusing on his formative years in Fremantle allows for a deeper dive into the influences and events that shaped him as a person and ultimately as the iconic frontman of AC/DC, It also provides an opportunity to explore the cultural landscape of the time, including the burgeoning music scene and social dynamics of the era,” the production company adds.
They conclude: “It’s an approach that allows for creative interpretation while still honouring the essence of Scott’s journey.”
In other AC/DC-related news, the band has recently announced a return to the road. On their first tour of Europe in eight years, AC/DC will perform 21 dates across ten countries this summer, including two shows at Wembley Stadium in London.
