Neutral Milk Hotel’s Jeff Mangum releases rare statement to endorse Bernie Sanders
Neutral Milk Hotel’s very own Jeff Mangum, who has stepped away from the public eye in recent years, has released a rare statement in order to endorse Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign.
Mangum, has kept an extremely low profile since Neutral Milk Hotel ended their reunion tour in 2015, does not make public statements or appearances these but released a message through his wife Astra Taylor.
Following the likes of Public Enemy, Vampire Weekend, Lykke Li, Bon Iver, The Strokes, Neil Young and many other creative minds, Mangum has urged people to get behind Senator Bernie Sanders’ presidential candidacy: “Hello my friends! Just writing to ask you to please vote for Bernie,” the short message reads.
Mangum, who has never been one to shy away from a debate on politics, was last spotted holding a sign that read “Climate Denial is Death” during last year’s New York City climate strike. Prior to that, the Neutral Milk Hotel mastermind performed at Occupy Wall Street in 2011.
For Sanders, the 2020 presidential campaign becomes his second run to the White House after he lost out to Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Party’s nomination. This year, however, Sanders enters the race with serious backing and, as of January 2020, he had raised more money than any other Democratic candidate.
Going up against stiff opposition, only self-funded billionaires Tom Steyer and Michael Bloomberg have more cash on hand in the field of Democratic candidates pursuing the party nomination.
