Neil Young to release new live album, ‘As Time Explodes’, next month
Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts are set to release their new live album, As Time Explodes, next month.
The new live record, which will arrive on May 29th through Reprise Records, captures their Love Earth Tour throughout Europe and the USA throughout 2025.
The career-spanning collection of songs features beloved tracks from Young’s catalogue, including new versions of old favourites like ‘Cortez the Killer’, ‘Ohio’, ‘Like A Hurricane’, and ‘After the Gold Rush’, as well as ‘Big Crime’, which he released last year with The Chrome Hearts.
As Time Explodes was produced by Lou Adler with The Volume Dealers (Neil Young and Niko Bolas). Meanwhile, The Chrome Hearts consist of Spooner Oldham, Micah Nelson, Corey McCormick and Anthony LoGerfo, alongside Young.
News of the live album will not be a shock to frequent readers of Young’s website, the Neil Young Archives. In a recent post, Young discussed the forthcoming release, explaining that it contains ‘unique versions of songs both old and new.”
Earlier this week, the Canadian confirmed, “As Time Explodes. The live album Chrome Hearts and I recorded on tour in Europe and the USA last year is ready to go! This wonderful tour of Earth’s ancient and beautiful Europe made such a cool record”.
If a new live album isn’t enough to fulfil your Neil Young fix, then don’t worry as he’s also got another studio record on the way with The Chrome Hearts.
Young confirmed earlier this week that it has been made with producer Rick Rubin, and features three songs that he wrote with his first band in the early 1960s, sharing with fans, “We were then out of songs. We needed more. The next morning I had a song going through my head and I was playing it. I checked it out in the archives and found it was from 1963, unreleased.”
The legendary artist continued, “There were more. I found three others with it … also unreleased! Three 60 year old songs and five brand new ones! We finished mixing and assembling one month later on the next full full moon… April 1st. It was fast.”
Young was due to tour Europe again this summer, but cancelled the run of dates, later explaining to fans that he was “listening to my body”.
