Neil Young shares new version of ‘Shut It Down’ amid the coronavirus crisis

Neil Young has released the song ‘Shut It Down 2020’, a new and reworked version of ‘Shut It Down’ taken from his 2019 album Colorado.

According to Young, the decision was “inspired by fans reaching out to Young expressing the elevated poignancy the song has come to represent during this pandemic.”

Young, who has been particularly active during a difficult period of self-isolation, previously launched his acoustic ‘Fireside Sessions’ which has seen him revisit rarities while in quarantine with his wife, Daryl Hannah, who directed the shows held at their Telluride, Colorado home.

“I hope you’re doing well,” Young previously said while perched by the fire. “And I hope everything is OK in your house and I hope you have a place to be where you’re with your loved ones. Hope you’re doing well out there everybody, it’s a different situation,” he added.

Now, as Young continues to inspire those struggling with the current pandemic, the musician has released his latest effort. “These are uncertain times,” Young said in a statement.

He added: “I wish you all the best as you care for our sick, the young and old who we love so much.”
