Neil Young pulls out of Farm Aid 2021 over Covid-19 concerns

Neil Young has withdrawn from this year’s planned Farm Aid festival over growing Covid-19 concerns.

Neil Young, who helped to first establish the festival and has remained a board member ever since, expressed his concerns on his website, stating: “I find myself wondering whether Farm Aid will be safe for everyone with the Covid pandemic surging.”

The folk legend goes on to add: “I worry about that. I don’t want to let anybody down, but still can’t shake the feeling that it might not be safe for everyone.”

Concluding: “I don’t want to play until you feel safe, and it is indeed, safe,” before adding in reference to fellow Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthew, “While I respect Willie, John and Dave’s decisions to stick with it and play, I am not of the same mind.”

“There are already too many children in hospitals,” he wrote. “My soul tells me it would be wrong to risk having anyone die because they wanted to hear music and be with friends.”

The sold-out festival, however, is still set to go ahead with an unchanged line-up for now other than the absence of Young.
