Neil Young duet with The Beach Boys’ Al Jardine released
Neil Young features on a newly released duet with The Beach Boys’ Al Jardine.
Following up from his 2010 solo debut, A Postcard from California, Al Jardine has released a new EP, named Islands In The Sun. The second of four tracks on the EP, which was released on May 30th, is ‘My Plane Leaves Tomorrow (Au Revoir).’
Speaking to Rolling Stone about the track, Jardine commented that, “It resonates now with the political unrest over in the Middle East. It’s about a service person who goes overseas and has to serve his country.”
The duo recorded the song together live during sessions for Jardine’s 2010 offering. Fellow musicians Stephen Stills and the late David Cosby were present for the recording. The track also features a trumpet part by Flea, who contributed bass to Postcard.
This summer, Jardine will take fellow Beach Boys’ co-founder Brian Wilson’s solo band, Pet Sounds Band, on tour. Jardine plans to perform the EP’s title track. “There’s a lot of material to draw from that people haven’t heard before,” Jardine told Rolling Stone. “And we’re going to have some fun.”
Neil Young will headline one night at the Pyramid stage this year at Glastonbury festival. The musician cancelled, then re-confirmed, his slot. On January 3rd, he shared with fans in a post titled ‘Glastonbury Festival’: “Due to an error in the information received, I had decided to not play the Glastonbury festival, which I always have loved. Happily, the festival is now back on our itinerary and we look forward to playing! Hope to see you there!”
In his ongoing public feud with Donald Trump, Neil Young hit the headlines recently due to fiercely defending Bruce Springsteen. The Boss has been delivering monologues against Trump’s administration, and the President has been threatening him online.
Young made his loyalties known, telling Trump: “Bruce and thousands of musicians think you are ruining America. You worry about that instead of the dyin’ kids in Gaza. That’s your problem. I am not scared of you. Neither are the rest of us.”
