My precious! Jamie Dornan among latest additions to ‘Lord of the Rings: The Hunt For Gollum’ cast

The cast for Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum has just got even bigger with the addition of 50 Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan.

The announcement was made at CinemaCon on April 14th, confirming that Dornan has been cast as Aragorn, who was originally played by Viggo Mortensen in the original Peter Jackson film trilogy.

Additionally, Warner Bros also confirmed that One Day actor Leo Woodall will also be joining the cast in the role of Dúnedain.

In regards to returning faces, Lee Pace will reprise Thranduil, who he previously portrayed in The Hobbit trilogy.

Andy Serkis, who is directing Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum as well as returning as the titular character, said in a statement, “Across two trilogies, a mark of a Middle-earth film, has always been the formidable array of talent brought to bear in every role.”

Serkis continued, “The Hunt for Gollum continues in that tradition, and I am delighted to announce the return of two of Middle-earth’s most beloved performers, alongside some exceptionally talented new additions to Tolkien’s world.”

It was previously announced in March that Kate Winslet was joining the cast. While her character remains under wraps, it is understood she will be the female lead in the highly-anticipated movie.

Elijah Wood is also set to reprise Frodo Baggins, and Sir Ian McKellen is making a comeback as Gandalf.

Before his role was officially announced, Wood let the cat out of the bag, stating, “I’m not really allowed to confirm. I’m really excited about the film. I think it really is a creative ‘getting the band back together.’ A lot of the creative heads of department are back and in that space again.”

Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is set for release on December 17th, 2027.
