Mubi postpones ‘Twin Peaks’ dining experience amid investor backlash

Mubi has announced it is postponing its Twin Peaks dining experience in London, only a day before the pop-up event was due to take place.

The streamer, which is celebrating the launch of the classic David Lynch surrealist series on to its platform, is commemorating the 35th anniversary of the show with a series of special events.

One of these was billed to be a dining experience replicating its famous Double R Diner, set to take over the New River Café in Stoke Newington on June 18th to give fans a chance to step inside the show.

However, Mubi took to Instagram on June 17th to announce that the event had been postponed at the last minute. In the post, they said: “We wanted to let you know that unfortunately we will be postponing tomorrow’s Twin Peaks diner experience. We’re so sorry for the short notice and hope to bring this back in the future.”

While no official reason was given for the cancellation, it comes just days after the streaming platform was heavily criticised for taking an investment from the firm Sequoia, which has connections to an Israeli defence technology firm.

Sequoia invested $100 million into the company in May this year. However, when news of this deal recently emerged, Mubi responded by saying: “Over the last several days, some members of our community have commented on the decision to work with Sequoia given their investment in Israeli companies and the personal opinions expressed by one of their partners. The beliefs of individual investors do not reflect the views of Mubi.”

Mubi has not yet made clear if the Twin Peaks dining experience may be rescheduled to a later date.
