Former Mötorhead drummer Mikkey Dee reveals he was hospitalised with sepsis
Mikkey Dee, the former Mötorhead drummer who now plays with Scorpions, has shared details of his recent hospitalisation with sepsis.
Dee is now recovering at home after the hospitalisation last month. In a statement shared with fans on Facebook, the drummer explained: “Just a quick statement about what has been happening to me these past three weeks: First I like to thank everyone for these heartwarming Christmas and New Years greetings, that I have not been able to respond to. I always try to do that every year.”
The musician, who was a member of Mötorhead from 1992 until Lemmy Kilmister’s death in 2015, continued: “This holiday season, I have been hospitalized with a very serious blood infection (Sepsis). I was admitted for three weeks but now I am home fighting this bastard bacteria.”
He also paid tribute to those in the medical profession who had cared for him while he was in hospital, adding, “Thankfully, I have received fantastic care at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, my hometown. So thanks a million to all the Doctors and Nurses that have been giving me the most excellent care.”
Dee is already looking ahead to returning to the stage next month in Las Vegas, but is aware that he still has a lot of work to do before he will be back at full fitness. He continued: “After several operations, I am now back home and the numbers are all going in the right direction. Still lots of recovery and rehab in front of me. Now I’m working a 100% to be back on the drum stool for the Residency that starts off in Las Vegas on February 27.”
The drummer concluded his message by looking ahead to touring the world with Scorpions this year, who are set to celebrate their 60th anniversary.
In an interview with the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Dee revealed that his sepsis was developed after straining his foot in December. Initially, he took pain medication to aid his recovery to help him perform Christmas shows in Gothenberg at Christmas.
However, his condition worsened which resulted in his hospitalisation shortly before Christmas. In total, Dee had three surgeries while in hospital.
