The most expensively dressed movie character of all time

Being dressed head-to-toe in the most expensive and luxurious of outfits is something typically associated with the wealthiest characters cinema has to offer. However, the holder of a unique record turned that notion upside down by being dressed to the nines while saving the world from catastrophe.

The industry has become no stranger to product placement and brand tie-ins over the years, with companies falling over themselves to have their wares glimpsed on-screen in the latest globetrotting blockbuster. Still, the James Bond costume department outdid itself when Spectre kitted Daniel Craig out and cemented him as the most expensively dressed character of all time.

In Sam Mendes’ second stab at 007, the titular hero reignites an iconic rivalry. Christoph Waltz’s Blofeld is on the other side of the battle, having been pulling the strings from the shadows through his nefarious SPECTRE organisation ever since Casino Royale.

In order to stop him, Bond has to partner with Madeleine Swann, the daughter of secondary Craig-era antagonist Mr. White. Along the way, he discovers that his current mission has deep and troubling ties to his past. It’s no easy task preventing global disaster yet again, but as always, the debonair secret agent looked fantastic doing it.

Of course, it helps when Bond is as immaculately dressed as always, to the extent that his Spectre wardrobe set a new record. While there have no doubt been several diamonds, gems, and other precious stones featured in film that were worth millions in isolation, in terms of clothing from the shoes up, MI6’s finest takes the cake.

At various points throughout the movie, Bond wears at least four tailored Tom Ford suits valued at between £2,650 and £3,399, to go along with a suede jacket that comes in at a cool £869. It is all capped off by an Omega Seamaster 300 watch that would set a paying customer back a princely £4,785.

According to Guinness World Records, from beginning to end, the apparel sported by Craig in Spectre boasts a combined retail value of almost £40,000. Considering that he typically ends up covered in blood, sweat, tears, dust, bullet residue, and plenty more by the time he’s wrapped up one of his missions, the outlay seems rather frivolous.

After all, the majority of people keep their best and most expensive clothes for rare and special occasions. Everyone knows that even the cream of the everyday crop takes pride in being placed on the outer rungs of the drying rack to ensure going back into circulation as quickly as possible post-washing.

If he’s going to make a living by repeatedly saving the world, though, then there’s absolutely no harm in Bond deciding that he wants to look his very best and most suave when going about it.
