Morrissey announces UK and Ireland tour, including huge Manchester show
Morrissey has announced details of a new UK and Ireland tour, which includes his first appearance at Manchester’s Co-op Live.
The four shows in the UK and Ireland have been billed as the “only time Morrissey will perform in Ireland, Scotland and England in 2025”. The set of dates will see the former frontman of The Smiths visit Dublin and Glasgow as well as return home to Manchester.
He will begin his tour on May 31st in Dublin at the 3Arena before crossing the Irish Sea to start the UK leg of the dates at the O2 Academy in Glasgow on June 4th and June 5th. Morrissey will then perform at the Co-op Live in Manchester on June 7th.
It remains to be seen whether Morrissey will release new music ahead of the tour. In November, the singer claimed that he was unable to release new material due to an alleged lack of freedom of speech in the United Kingdom.
Since 2022, Morrissey has been in dispute with Capitol over the release of his long-awaited solo album, Bonfire of Teenagers. Over the last three years, the singer has issued various statements on his website criticising the record label, and at a show in New Jersey, Morrissey aired his grievances to the crowd in attendance.
According to APP, in the middle of the concert, he shared: “As you know, nobody will release my music anymore. As you know because I’m a chief exponent of free speech. In England at least, it’s now criminalised.”
Morrissey continued: “You cannot speak freely in England. If you don’t believe me, go there. Express an opinion, you’ll be sent to prison. It’s very, very difficult.”
Last April, Morrissey purchased the rights to Bonfire of Teenagers from Capitol, but there is still yet to be any available information regarding a potential release date for the long-awaited project.
Additionally, last year, Morrissey gave the green light to reunite with The Smiths for a 2025 tour. However, Johnny Marr rejected the proposal, explaining in a statement, “As for the offer to tour, I didn’t ignore the offer – I said no.”
