Last week saw Morrissey kick off his European tour with a headline show Leed—and he didn’t disappoint. As well as delivering a host of new tracks from his upcoming LP, I Am Not A Dog On A Chain, he performed some rarely heard classics from The Smiths.
Morrissey’s European tour will continue in London this weekend and, judging by the reports from the first night, it’s going to be something really special.
During the performance, the former Smiths frontman gave live debuts to new songs ‘Jim Jim Falls’, ‘Once I Saw the River Clean’ and his most recent single ‘Love Is on Its Way Out’, all of which are from the new album that arrives on March 20th.
The real treat, some might say, came with the performance of some Smiths classics. As well as ‘At Amber’ a track from Moz’s 1988 solo record Viva Hate there was ‘The Boy With The Thorn In His Side’, ‘The Boy With A Thorn In His Side’ and ‘Half A Person’, which was played live for the first time in two decades.
It’s a return to form that makes a welcome relief from previous Moz incarnations. With more shows on the way this week, culminating in his London show, could there be more Smiths deep cuts on the way?
We hope so.
