Morrissey “ordered to rest for two weeks” after cancelling LA shows
Former Smiths frontman Morrissey is currently “receiving medical supervision for physical exhaustion” after cancelling several anniversary shows.
Two shows set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of 2004’s You Are The Quarry in California were cancelled due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
Morrissey, who has a well-established track record for cancelling shows at short notice, has also cancelled the upcoming South America shows.
His tour manager, Donnie Knutson, shared a message on his social media channels: “Morrissey is receiving medical supervision for physical exhaustion. He has been ordered to rest for two weeks, and he will remain in Zurich.”
The cancellation news comes amid his claims he’s being “deleted” from The Smiths story, as well as his long-standing gripe with Capitol Records over the release of the upcoming album Bonfire of Teenagers, which Morrissey said the label was only prepared to “give back” for a certain price.
“It’s been quite traumatic and quite sad because when you record something, you want it to be available immediately, and it was very much of the time,” he said. “For me, it was a very personal thing, and the fact that it hasn’t been released has been torture.”
Initially slated for release in February 2023, with reported features from Iggy Pop, Chad Smith, Flea, and Miley Cyrus, Morrissey withdrew from “any association with Capitol Records” in 2022, and Cyrus was said to have requested her hand in the album also be withdrawn.
