Morrissey cancels more European headline shows

Morrissey has cancelled a further set of dates on his ongoing European tour.

The former frontman of The Smiths concluded the UK leg of his tour last month, which included a huge hometown show at the Co-op Live in Manchester. However, he then cancelled the next performance on the run in Madrid, and since then, the tour has been blighted by cancellations.

An acute case of sinusitis was given as the reasoning for his cancelled show in Madrid. Similarly, this was also the reason why two shows didn’t go ahead in the United States in May.

The latest dates to have been affected include Belgrade on July 8th, and following that cancellation, it has since been confirmed that his concerts in Bucharest, Istanbul, Athens, and Šibenik have also been pulled.

The performance in Athens was set to be part of the Release Athens festival, which will now being going ahead on the same date with Supergrass as the headline act.

Release Athens said in a statement: “Due to the unforeseen event and the cancellation of Morrissey’s appearance at Release Athens 2025, turning this unpleasant event into something positive, Release Athens 2025 announced that the show on Wednesday, July 16th will take place as usual with Supergrass and The Damned, with free admission for all Release Athens 2025 ticket holders & with a new general pre-sale for €25 for the general public.”

In late June, Morrissey cancelled his proposed show in Stockholm, and explained the reasoning on his website, writing that he and his band are “travel weary beyond belief” and “can barely see” from travelling to six countries within the space of a week. The singer added, “We have thousands upon thousands of friends, yet absolutely zero music industry support.”

As it stands, Morrissey remains scheduled to conclude his European run with five Italian dates and the tour is set to resume at Gardone Riviera on July 23rd. He also has an extensive North America tour planned for later this year, which will continue into 2026.
