Morrissey cancels Madrid concert due to health issues

Former Smiths frontman Morrissey has cancelled his performance in Madrid on June 12th due to health reasons.

Morrissey began his European tour on May 31st with a show at the 3Arena in Dublin, and has since played two shows at the O2 Academy in Glasgow before returning home to Manchester on June 7th to play the Co-op Live for the first time in his career.

He was due to play at Noches del Botánico in Madrid on June 12th, but the concert was cancelled 24 hours before Morrissey was set to perform.

In an official statement, shared by Noches del Botánico to ticketholders, Morrissey’s team said: “Morrissey is undergoing medical treatment for an acute case of sinusitis. As a result, and with great regret, tomorrow’s engagement in Madrid is cancelled.”

Meanwhile, the outdoor venue said it “regrets any inconvenience this cancellation may cause and appreciates the public’s understanding”.

Last month, Morrissey cancelled two US shows after being hospitalised on the road. The vocalist was set to play San Diego on May 1st and Rancho Mirage in California on May 3rd. However, his website stated that the singer missed both shows after contracting “a severe sinusitis attack,” which is the same illness that caused him to cancel his Madrid performance.

As it stands, Morrissey is still scheduled to resume his tour on June 15th at the Zenith in Paris. His ongoing European tour is also set to visit Antwerp, Cologne, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Berlin, Leipzig, Munich, Krakow, Vienna, Belgrade, Bucharest, Istanbul, Athens and Šibenek before concluding with four Italian dates.

Morrissey is then set to embark upon a North American tour, which will then head to Mexico ahead of several dates in Latin America later this year.
