Morrissey launches attack on “headless Palisades savages” Sparks
Morrissey has hit out at electronic duo Sparks, who he has described as “headless Palisades savages” in a new social media post.
While the former frontman of The Smiths has previously spoken kindly about Sparks and considered them an inspiration at one point, they have been entangled in a feud in recent years due to Morrissey’s political beliefs.
In a new Instagram post, Morrissey shared a gallery of images from his younger days, including a handwritten letter from Ron and Russell Mael of Sparks. In the note, they wrote: “Here’s the casette of demos that we worked up in some very rough form. Hope that you enjoy them.”
The letter continued: “Have been trying to phone you for about a week to let you know they were on there way, but without any luck.” Sparks also encouraged Morrissey to contact them upon the arrival of the tapes.
However, in the caption of the post, Morrissey viciously wrote of the handwritten letter: “A nice note from Ron and Russell Mael – before they turned into headless Palisades savages who threw their old friends into hot molten lava for sexy kicks.”
Previously, Russell Mael told the Press Association in 2018 of Morrissey’s political views: “I’m totally in agreement with anybody being disillusioned (with Morrissey) because I am as well.”
“It seemed so inconsistent, all these perspectives that he has on those various issues, just stupid, dumb kind of things,” Mael added. “I obviously don’t agree with any of these things. They’re just so ill-conceived and wrong.”
Three years later, Morrissey responded to Mael’s remarks during an interview with his nephew and said that he wasn’t upset by the comments because “I’m quite used to it”.
The Mancunian continued: “I stood by Sparks for many years and I promoted them in my own humble way whenever I could, and they were famously people without opinions so I was surprised that they kicked me in the teeth. It came across as an almost fiendish ingratitude.”
