Miley Cyrus addresses family feud in new statement: “My dad and I have had our challenges”
Singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus has spoken out on Instagram to set the record straight amid an ongoing family feud.
Miley posted the story after fans had noticed that her mother had unfollowed her on Instagram, after Miley had met up with her father Billy Ray Cyrus for a birthday celebration. She began: “I rarely comment on rumours but my mama and I are too tight for anything to ever come between us.”
She continued: “She’s my best friend. Like a lot of moms, she doesn’t know how to work her phone and somehow unfollowed me – simple, coincidental and uninteresting.” Tish, her mother, divorced Billy in 2022.
Miley then turned her attention to her father: “My dad and I have had our challenges over the years. Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else. I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing. Grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family.”
Most of the feud has taken place on Instagram. After Billy Ray Cyrus performed at Liberty Ball for Trump’s inauguration in January, his son Trace Cyrus declared that he and his sisters are concerned about their relationship. The country singer’s set was plagued with technical difficulties and led many to worry about his health as he appeared in slight disarray.
In an open letter published on Instagram, the musician said that his father is someone “I barely recognise now,” adding, “you’re not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it.”
Billy responded by posting a YouTube Short, uploading a clip from his 2009 music video for ‘Somebody Said A Prayer’, which stars Trace, along with a not-so-subtle caption about the need to leave the past behind. The caption included the words, “Praying for my family. For my children … sons and daughters…and their mother.”
