Billy Ray Cyrus responds after son issues public plea about his father’s wellbeing
Country star Billy Ray Cyrus has responded after his son, Trace Cyrus, shared his fears about his father’s wellbeing following his chaotic performance at President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
On January 22nd, Trace took to Instagram to say that his father is someone “I barely recognise now”, citing his worries for Billy Ray’s welfare. In his plea, he said “it seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you,” adding that “me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away.”
Trace added: “You’re not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it. Just like I showed up for you at mamaws funeral when you didn’t expect me to I’m still here right now. As I write this with tears in my eyes I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon. I love you Dad. We haven’t talked in a while but I’m over a year and half clean from alcohol. Guess what? I feel amazing.. I don’t know what you’re struggling with exactly but I think I have a pretty good idea & I’d love to help you if you would open up and receive the help.”
While Billy Ray hasn’t directly addressed the public comments by Trace, he has responded to the matter through YouTube Shorts. Cyrus uploaded a clip from his 2009 music video for ‘Somebody Said A Prayer’, which stars Trace, along with a not-so-subtle caption about the need to leave the past behind and unify.
The ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ singer wrote: “Giving thanks for the California Rain . Praying for the brokenhearted and their pain. Praying for my family. For my children … sons and daughters…and their mother.”
Cyrus added: “Let this moment be the start of healing for us all. ‘The past does not equal the future.’ Amen.”
Previously, on January 25th, Trace claimed that his father had begun legal action, which he brandished as a “disgrace”.
Notably, Cyrus’ performance at Trump’s inauguration was plagued by technical difficulties. His ex-wife, Firerose, who divorced from the singer last year after seven months of marriage, also echoed Trace’s comments, telling Page Six: “What’s being seen in public now reflects much of what I experienced in private during our relationship.”
She added: “It’s very sad to see those same struggles continue for him, but I’m glad the truth is coming to light — for his potential good because healing is only possible when you confront the truth and accept there’s a problem.”
