Miles Teller reveals how Grateful Dead fans supported him after losing home in LA fires: “It’s such a loving community”

Miles Teller has explained how the fan community of the Grateful Dead came to his aid after losing his home in the Los Angeles fires.

In January, Teller was one of many who lost their homes in the Pacific Palisades region due to the wildfires. Thankfully, he and his wife, Keleigh Teller, safely evacuated the property.

In a new episode of This Past Weekend with Theo Von, Teller, who was wearing a Grateful Dead tee, began by discussing his love for the legendary band, sharing, “I did the San Fran show, I’ve seen them at The Sphere, I’ve seen this iteration, Dead & Co, since pretty much John (Mayer) started, but even before that, I was seeing some different versions of them, y’know Bob Weir and Phil Lesh, kind of independently.”

Teller then discussed the power of the Deadheads and how they came together at his time of need earlier this year, “When our house burned down, one of the things I was most upset was all these vintage Grateful Dead shirts, but that community is so awesome.”

He then explained that while he’s not on social media, fans began to reach out to his wife to say, “‘We feel so bad for you guys, and we know if our house burned down, we’d really miss those shirts. Can we send you some from our own collections?’ So, a bunch of people, shout out to you, sent me shirts.”

The Eternity star continued: “It’s such a loving community, I feel like all those bands from that era, especially the Dead, really kind of supported everybody. Their crowds were rainbow coloured before anybody’s.”

Teller then showed off the haul of merchandise that he picked up across their three 60th-anniversary shows in San Francisco this summer before reflecting on the concerts, “Overall, I think Saturday night was the best. It’s hard because you can look at the setlists, but usually, at one of those weekend shows, they just catch lightning in a bottle, and I think that’s the beauty of the band as you’re never going to hear the same song twice because it’s so improvisational.”

Teller also proudly said that he “danced my ass off” at the shows in San Francisco.

Earlier this week, the Grateful Dead lost their former member Donna Jean Godchaux, who died in a hospice in Nashville on November 2nd, aged 78. She served as a vocalist in the band from 1971 until 1979.

In tribute, the band wrote on social media following her passing, “It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of Donna Jean Godchaux. Her unmistakable voice and radiant spirit touched the lives of countless fans and immeasurably enriched the Grateful Dead family. Her contributions will forever remain part of the tapestry that continues to be woven.”
