Miles Teller, Anthony Hopkins and Billy Crystal lose homes in LA wildfires

Hollywood actors, including Miles Teller, Anthony Hopkins, and Billy Crystal, have lost their homes in a wildfire that has engulfed large sections of Los Angeles County.

As of January 9th, more than 1,100 structures had been destroyed, and five people had died. The Pacific Palisades area has been particularly hard hit, with nearly 7,000 hectares engulfed in flames with zero containment.

Other celebrities, including John Goodman, Paris Hilton, and Adam Brody, have also had their homes destroyed, while Tom Hanks, Ben Affleck, and Mark Hamill evacuated their homes due to the fires.

“Words cannot describe the enormity of the devastation we are witnessing and experiencing,” Billy Crystal said in a statement to CNN. “We ache for our friends and neighbours who have also lost their homes and businesses in this tragedy.”

The actor went on to reveal that he and his wife Janice had lived in their home since the 1970s and raised their children and grandchildren there. “Every inch of our house was filled with love,” he said, “Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away.”

Actor James Woods, who also lost his home, broke down in tears during an interview with CNN, recounting how he had helped his 94-year-old neighbour, who suffered from dementia, to safety. “There was so much chaos,” he said. “It was like an inferno. Every house was on fire around us.”

In response to the fires, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that it would extend Oscar voting by two days and postpone the announcement of the nominations to Sunday, January 19th. The Critics Choice Awards, which were due to take place on Sunday, have been postponed to January 26th.
