Mark Hamill evacuated from home due to Los Angeles wildfires

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill is one of the many figures in the entertainment industry who have been evacuated from their homes due to the wildfires in Los Angeles.

The fires have caused more than 30,000 people based in the Pacific Palisades region to leave their homes for safety reasons. On January 7th, the wildfires spread rapidly over a matter of hours, going from covering 20 acres to over 3,000.

Taking to his Instagram account on January 7th, Hamill reassured fans that he had successfully evacuated the area, writing: “Personal Fire Update: 7pm – Evacuated Malibu so last-minute there (were) small fires on the sides of the road as we approached PCH (Pacific Coast Highway)”.

Hamill, along with his wife Marilou and dog Trixie, are staying at their daughter Chelsea’s home in Hollywood while the Pacific Palisades region remains off-limits.

Additionally, James Woods revealed he’d left Pacific Palisades due to the wildfire but expressed his fears that his home may have been a victim of the natural disaster. He wrote on X alongside an image : “I took this last night from our beautiful little home in the Palisades. Now all the fire alarms are going off at once remotely. It tests your soul, losing everything at once, I must say.”

Meanwhile, Schitt’s Creek star Eugene Levy is another affected by the Pacific Palisades wildfires. Levy, who has been the current honorary mayor of the Palisades since 2021, told the Los Angeles Times, “The smoke looked pretty black and intense over Temescal Canyon … the smoke was very dark.”

As a result of the extreme conditions, various Hollywood events, including the SAG Awards nomination announcement ceremony have been cancelled for safety purposes. A statement released by the Screen Actors Guild read: “In an abundance of caution for the safety of our presenters, guests, and staff, the live in-person 31st Annual SAG Awards nominations announcement has been canceled due to the wildfires and adverse wind conditions in Los Angeles.”

They added, “Nominees will be unveiled tomorrow at 7:30 am PT via press release and the SAG Awards website. We look forward to celebrating these incredible actors and their work at the SAG Awards ceremony on February 23. In the meantime, we urge everyone to stay safe, and thank you for your continued support.”

Moreover, the premieres of The Pitt and Better Man, scheduled for January 8th in Los Angeles, have also been cancelled.
