Midge Ure forced to postpone tour due to urgent medical treatment
Midge Ure, who co-founded Live Aid, has been forced to reschedule his tour dates due to needing “urgent treatment”.
The former Ultravox singer, best known for their classic track ‘Vienna’, was due to commence upon a solo tour in Australia and New Zealand later this year, which will no longer go ahead as planned.
In a statement, Ure wrote on his website: “It is with great sadness and difficulty that I have to reschedule all shows planned from September onwards aiming to be back on the road again by later this year.’
He explained: “During a recent routine check-up, doctors discovered a health issue that requires urgent treatment and a period of recovery.”
Ure, who did not specify his health issues, then apologised to his fans, who he knows “travel great distances, often across borders to attend the shows”, and said that he never takes “that support for granted”.
Despite needing medical treatment, Ure is still set to complete his August commitments, which include a number of UK shows and trips to Slovakia and Italy. “I remain fully committed to performing all shows currently scheduled for this month and I’m looking forward to being out there with you for as long as I’m able,” he added.
He also confirmed his A Man of Two Worlds tour is “very much going ahead”, and stated that he’s “aiming to be back on the road again as soon as possible and looking forward to getting back out there and sharing this music with you all.”
Ure will reveal news of the rescheduled dates through his website and Facebook page as soon as he can.
The Scottish singer concluded: “I kindly ask that you respect the privacy of myself and my family during this difficult time. Thank you, as always, for your understanding, patience, and unwavering support. It truly means a great deal.”
